Public-private platform for the validation of endocrine disruptors characterization methods.

PEPPER is a public-private plateform made to accelerate production of validated tests in Europe.

Scientific research

Further research is needed to understand mechanisms at play and establish new assays, supported by large scale research programs. PEPPER’s purpose is to lead towards the validation of these assays.

Health and Environment

To lower the exposure to endocrine disruptors of both the populations and the environment, thanks to the pre-validation of endocrine disruptors characterization methods.

Pooling efforts

Some existing lists of potential or suspected EDs feature thousands of substances, whereas others only feature a couple of dozens. Now is the time to mutualise our efforts in order to leave this uncertainty behind and work collaboratively to identify a list of EDs.

IDENTIFYING ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS

“An endocrine disruptor is an exogenous substance or mixture that alters function(s) of the endocrine system and consequently causes adverse health effects in an intact organism, or its progeny, or (sub) populations.” WHO, 2012.

In order to identify a substance as an endocrine disruptor, one need assays which are accepted by all and embedded in regulations.

Goals of PEPPER

Our association sits at the heart of the pre-validation process for endocrine disruptors (EDs) characterization methods.
The end goal is to better protect human health and the environment from EDs.
PEPPER is the missing link between upstream research and operational applications.

0 % of French people consider EDs as a high risk for our society (IRSN, 2020)
0 The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is working on 105 substances (but 100 announced)
0 substances identified as EPs under the REACH regulation in 2022.
